Marrickville

A new addition to an existing brick cottage, Marrickville transforms what was once a disconected 70s fibro rear extension to a warm, light filled space usable all year round.

Design Response

The new design provided an open plan kitchen living dining area on grade with the rear outdoor yard and garden. The house is orientated to the North and East to maximise solar penetration in winter and encourage natural ventilation. Thermal mass using a concrete floor and recycled bricks keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter. Natural material finishes reduce the projects total embodied energy.
